I got a phone call from the Republican Party yesterday, they were having a survey for delegates to the Convention.

It was a robo call, and the first question was, “What best describes you? Press 1 for social conservative, press 2 for fiscal conservative, press 3 for tea party patriot, and press 4 for big tent republican.”

I didn’t press anything. It seems to me that it is the democrat party that likes to put people into groups, and then assume the groups will tow the line when it comes time for voting. But also, I couldn’t press a number because they didn’t ask me if I was a Buckley Conservative, or a Reagan Conservative, or a Lincoln Republican, or a Constitutional Conservative. If they had asked that, I still couldn’t press a number unless they had included a 5, “all of the above.”

Are we to assume that social conservatives are not fiscal conservatives? Are we to assume tea party patriots all think alike? Aren’t big tent republicans the “anything goes” crowd?

This is the second time I’ve been asked if I’m a Republican or tea party, so let’s get it straight. I’m a Republican that shakes my head everytime a moderate gets a nod. I’m a Republican that studies what it means to be a Republican. There is no “either or” for being Republican or tea party, we just happen to be the most effective activists out there, and let me tell you, we aren’t followers, we are leaders.

If there was a number to press for that, I would have.

One Response to Yes, but what kind of Republican Delegate are you?
