Every morning I look at the facebook entry of the candidates running for governor and congress in Michigan.

This one is a knee-slapper:

Jason Allen for Congress My commitment to free enterprise and free market principles, and ending the Washington power grab and out of control spending stifling job growth was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Michigan who announced their support of my campaign for Congress today.

Nothing against the Associated Builders and Contractors, there is no one else running for Congress in Michigan’s First District that would have the interest of the Builders because everyone of them haven’t been in office before.

However, Jason Allen is the biggest crony capitalist in Lansing!  His more than 60 pieces of legislation designed to help certain and particular businesses, which stifles the growth of other businesses.  His giveaways to companies via the taxpayer is the antithesis (sorry Tom) of the free market.

From The Action Institute:

Corporate welfare fosters an incestuous relationship between businesses and government. In Washington today, industry trade associations and lobbying firms continually pressure lawmakers to give out new business subsidies or to protect longstanding handouts. This is a natural byproduct of an administration that uses its power to give taxpayer money to favored interests. If there were no possibility that subsidies might be offered, demands for them would naturally diminish if not disappear altogether. The reality, however, is that the federal government has been redistributing wealth virtually since its inception (Slivinski 2001, 10).

And yes that is what it boils down to, the redistribution of wealth. Our wealth, our taxes, our children’s future. Given away because some politician wants to gain more power. In Jason Allen and the Definition of a Liberal Republican, I talk more about the deals he has made.
